About the studio

We started Northlight because good houses were photographing badly

Ingrid Halvorsen spent nine years in residential interior design watching well-built Portland homes sit on the market behind bad listing photos. In 2014 she started staging them instead.

A staging studio, not a furniture rental

Plenty of companies will drop furniture in a house. That is not the same as staging it. The work that changes a buyer's mind happens in the decisions — which of your pieces stay, where the sightline should land when someone steps through the front door, what the room looks like through a 24mm lens at ten in the morning.

We are a team of 3 with our own warehouse in North Portland and a crew that has been with us for years. Since 2014 we have staged over four hundred homes across the metro, from 900 square foot condos to estates in the West Hills.

Most of our work comes from listing agents who have used us before. That is the metric we actually care about.

How we work

Four things we hold ourselves to

We tell you what the house actually needs

Sometimes that is a full stage. Sometimes it is a consultation and a weekend of your own work. We would rather quote you accurately than upsell you into a package that will not change your outcome.

Fixed quotes, before anything is ordered

You approve a written scope with a number on it. We do not send surprise invoices for the extra lamp, and we do not start work until you have said yes.

We hit our install dates

Listing launches are choreography — photographer, copy, MLS, open house. Our crew shows up on the day we promised so the rest of your schedule holds.

Our inventory is our own

Twelve thousand square feet of warehouse in North Portland. Nothing gets delayed because a rental house could not deliver a sofa on time.
